Rarely does life bring you something like the Dodge Viper. Thirty years ago, in early 1989, Chrysler's Bob Lutz requested a clay model of what he considered a "modern Cobra". A few months later that model became a reality and shortly thereafter a Viper concept was unveiled to the public at the North American International Auto Show. Public reaction was off the charts and the Viper was sent into production. Three decades later the Viper is no longer being built, but you can have a taste of what was with our Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster.
The original Viper was just slightly less raw than the original Shelby Cobra that inspired it. With a canvas roof, vinyl windows that went up and down via a zipper, that rawness wasn't always a good thing. The fourth generation Viper that you see here brought buyers not only sharp, angled bodywork, but a 8.4L, 511.5 cubic inch V10 engine. That's good for six hundred horsepower, and coupled with a manual transmission you truly cannot experience anything like this in today's automotive showrooms.
